‘Green Room’ Review: Nothing’s Scarier Than Nazis

Green Room was one of the best horror films of 2015, but in 2016 it packs an even heavier punch. Two factors make Green Room harder to watch one year after its premiere: the untimely death of its star, Anton Yelchin, and the sudden increase of Nazism across the political landscape. Even the band’s name, the Ain’t Rights, feels different in our new alt-right world.

Green Room follows a struggling young punk band as they unwittingly play a show at a neo-Nazi commune, witness a crime and are terrorized by Nazis in an attempt to guarantee their silence.

Scream Queens Season Two Recap: Blood Drive

There are rumours swirling that Scream Queens won’t get picked up for a third season and honestly? I’m not surprised. The show is incredibly inconsistent, barely understands its own mythology and has lost whatever charm it may have had. We’ve still got great campy performances from actors like Jamie Lee Curtis and Emma Roberts, interesting bit players like John Stamos and Kirstie Alley and some real potential, but the show might be taking too long to really click. It’s not a perfect satire, it’s not a hilarious comedy, it’s just kind of… there. Anyway, here’s what happened in “Blood Drive.”

American Horror Story: Roanoke Chapter 10 Recap

It’s the finale! We made it through ten weeks of surprisingly good, coherent story-telling. Did we make it to the home stretch without jumping the shark?? Um, not really.

Last week, the found footage reality show version of Roanoke came to an end. Everyone was dead except Lee, who had briefly been part of the Butcher’s crew but seemingly shook that off. She murdered multiple people, the ghosts torched some kids alive and Audrey got death by cop. Where do we go from here?

American Horror Story: Roanoke Chapter 9 Recap

We’re at the penultimate episode, which means it’s time for shit to get real. Ryan Murphy promised this season would have a big twist in episode 6 (which it did), then have a different back half (which it did) and one final episode that was its own thing entirely. That’ll be coming up next week, and looks to be absolutely crazy. This week we got the return of fan favourite actress Taissa Farmiga and a slew of new characters to not make it through the night. It is the blood moon, after all!

American Horror Story: Roanoke Chapter 8 Recap

After seven straight weeks of me raving, it was inevitable we’d come across an episode that breaks the streak. While Chapter 8 wasn’t necessarily bad, and I don’t think it threw a wrench that will ruin the rest of the season or anything, it was the worst thing AHS could be: boring. A filler episode. The wheels were spinning in place, but the tiny tease at the end could mean things will get better instead of worse. Fingers crossed!

‘The House of the Devil’ Review: A Retro Throwback That Feels Fresh

Something was up with America in the 1980s. For some reason, everyone in the country was convinced that Satanists were in their midst, performing grotesque rituals and preying on the innocent. The decade was full of crimes (sometimes imagined) that were pinned on cults and roaming packs of Satan-worshippers disguised as your neighbours, co-workers and friends. It was weird.
